Position Overview:
A prestigious clean energy company is actively seeking a Senior Indirect Tax Accountant to manage and oversee all U.S. indirect tax compliance efforts. This vital role entails ensuring compliance with sales and use tax, personal property tax, and other state-specific requirements. The ideal candidate will report directly to the Director of Tax Accounting and collaborate extensively with operational, financial, IT, and external advisory teams to handle complex tax issues effectively. Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the preparation and filing of all indirect tax returns, including sales and use tax and personal property tax.
  • Maintain a consolidated compliance calendar for all required state and local tax jurisdictions.
  • Reconcile sales tax reports with monthly sales data and general ledger entries.
  • Address and resolve tax notices and discrepancies.
  • Develop and implement tax policies and procedures that uphold best practices in transaction tax processes.
  • Keep abreast of changes in tax regulations, ensuring accurate communication and implementation of new sales tax rates.
  • Support multistate sales and use tax audits and tax controversies.
  • Oversee the maintenance of the Vertex system for tax compliance and accuracy, and manage exemption certificate compliance.
  • Contribute to tax consulting projects, including taxability studies, nexus analyses, and the exploration of potential tax credits and incentives.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field with at least 5 years of pertinent experience; or a Master’s degree with 3 years of experience.
  • Extensive experience in public accounting or a corporate tax department with a focus on indirect taxes.

Required Skills:

  • Excellent analytical, accounting, and tax research skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with a high level of self-motivation.
  • Preferred Skills:
  • Familiarity with Workday and Vertex software.
