Management Accountant opportunity with a pioneering Scottish Mental Health Charity, based in Edinburgh.

Job Title: Management Accountant
Location: Edinburgh, City Centre
Contract: Permanent, Full-time
Salary: up to £43,600 + excellent benefits, holiday allowance, and hybrid/flexible working
AJ Connect is delighted to be partnering with a pioneering Mental Health Charity based in Edinburgh, who is looking to appoint a Management Accountant on a full-time, permanent basis.
This is a newly created role within the finance team to support the continued growth of the organisation, as they have recently been awarded a number of large and long-term projects to support people’s mental health across Scotland.
In this position you will have the opportunity to play a key role in furthering the development of the finance team and reporting packs, ensuring that they provide the best support to colleagues across the wider organisation.
You will be working closely and reporting directly to the Head of Finance to support the wider finance team and the organisation on all aspects of finance, with a particular focus on management accounts preparation and reporting.
Your key responsibilities will be:

  • Ensuring that all subsidiary ledgers are up-to-date and closed out before monthly Management Accounts are prepared
  • Creating, amending, and deleting as necessary all nominal ledger Standard, Recurring and Reversing Journal Entries
  • Reviewing all balance sheet reconciliations
  • Completing all month-end processes.  
  • Producing monthly management accounts, including:
  • Distributing individual Cost Centre Management Accounts to budget holders
  • Investigating reasons for major variances against budget and commenting on the results.  
  • Preparation of management accounts for funders
  • Preparation of finance models for new business opportunities
  • Assisting in the preparation of the statutory accounts and with the year end audit
  • Any other ad hoc duties as requested by the Head of Finance / Director of Corporate Services  

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Experience in preparing management accounts and reconciliations.
  • Experience of using integrated financial accounting system, such as Access Financials or equivalent


  • Experience of working in the voluntary sector, with an understanding of the issues involved in providing support to service users, whilst also satisfying the expectations of our Funders.
  • Experience of preparing statutory accounts in accordance with Charity SORP 2005.
